Joshua

Born in 1999 on a ranch raising cattle for beef, Joshua contracted a navel infection through his umbilical cord (a common occurrence in newborn cattle), which quickly manifested as fluid and swelling in his joints. Most severely affected were the knee joints of his front legs. causing him so much pain that he was unable to raise himself up from his knees, and could only make attempts to crawl.

Without being given the benefit of veterinary attention, Joshua's "owners" had abandoned him, believing him permanently crippled.

Rescued and brought to Farm Sanctuary in Orland, California just a week after being born, Joshie finally got the care he needed. With just a simple course of antibiotics, the infection quickly began to subside, and he gently and cautiously began physical therapy. Joshua instantly won over every one's hearts with his unfaltering courage and spirit, and made everyone proud after a complete and full recovery.

Now many years later, he is only a reminiscence of the sickly near-death baby he had once been. Now a big 'ole boy, Joshie loves to graze on the pastures with his friends in the main cattle heard, and spend time and groom his girlfriend Emily. Like many cattle, Josh had contracted eye cancer, and later received treatments to remove it. He has the second-best hairstyle of all the cattle, and is picky about treats, though one time he started following me around for a long while after I gave him some apple.
